New York City Pride

New York City hosts several events throughout the year for the LGBT community. With The Rally, Rapture on the River, The March, Pridefest, Dance on the Pier, and Fairgrounds who wouldn’t want to celebrate in New York City?

Rapture 2010

Rapture 2010 is in its seventh year. Located on Pier 54, this has become a staple Pride event for women in New York City.  This event has become a staple of the New York lesbian community, women from all over the region and the world come out to NYC’s Pride events and the Rapture Women’s dance party.

Dance on the Pier 54

Pier 54, 13th St @ the West Side Highway - Hudson River Park
Sunday, June 27th, 2010, 4:00 - 10:30 PM

Please join us for the official NYC LGBT Dance on the Pier. There is no other event quite like ours and no other place than New York City to experience the rhythm of Pride.

The Dance on the Pier was born out of a time when LGBT persons could not dance openly and proudly together. It is a protest set to music, a celebration set to the western skyline and a reminder of how far we've come.

The March

The March began as an annual civil rights demonstration beginning the year after the Stonewall Riots in 1970. Over the years its purpose has broadened to include recognition of the fight against AIDS and to remember those we have lost to the illness, violence and neglect. It has also evolved to include being a celebration of our lives and our community.

To watch the March step-off you should be in the 50s or upper 40s on 5th Avenue. For larger crowds and high energy, anywhere in the village is ideal. For smaller crowds, many enjoy watching in the 30s, 20s, and teens on 5th Avenue. The March has been shortened this year. It now starts at 36th Street. That means much has changed.

This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary.
From 36nd & 5th St. to Christopher & Greenwich St.
Sunday, June 27th, 2010, Noon - End
Moment of Silence: 2:00 PM

Pridefest

Pridefest is the annual LGBT street fair. Back this year from a temporary cancellation, Pridefest seeks to bring together local residents and families, community leaders, and area business owners to celebrate in the street. Additionally, we expect to attract thousands of out-of-state visitors and volunteers.

This will be the 16th annual Pridefest event. Please note the new location! Though in a smaller area, we will still combine vendors, entertainers, and community activities for a day of fun celebration of LGBT Pride in the name of equality.

Hudson St. between Abingdon Sq. & West 14th St. - Sunday, June 27th, 2010, 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The Rally

Please join us for the official NYC LGBT Pride Rally! The Rally will feature well-known performers and motivating speakers from the LGBT community to kick-off this year's Pride Week events. The first NYC LGBT Pride Rally occurred one month after the Stonewall Riots in June 1969 when 500 people gathered for a "Gay Power" demonstration in Washington Square Park. It was followed by a candlelight vigil in Sheridan Square. Since 1997, the Rally has been held in the beautiful and well-maintained outdoor venue of Bryant Park.

This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are necessary. The entire Rally will be ASL interpreted for individuals who are deaf/hard-of-hearing. Ramps allowing those in wheelchairs access are located mid-block on 40th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Part of the northwest corner of the lawn will be reserved for ASL users and those in wheelchairs. On behalf of our community, Heritage of Pride extends our appreciation to the Bryant Park Corporation, BPC led by Dan Biederman.

72nd St. & 5th Ave. at Rumsey Playfield Central Park Saturday, June 19th, 2010, 4:00 - 8:00 PM!

Hope to see you there!
