  LGBT Honeymoon

No wedding, gay or straight, is complete without a honeymoon. Interest in gay & lesbian honeymoons has rapidly grown as more states and countries legalize same-sex marriages. While straight couples on a honeymoon have traditionally been welcomed at vacation spots around the world, gay ones have experienced discrimination in many locales.

Fortunately, there are cities and beautiful beaches that have been catering to gay and lesbians. Now that more states and countries recognize marriages between gay people, these destinations are prepared to host their honeymoons. Many cities already have a variety of gay-friendly lodgings, bars, and restaurants for gay and lesbian couples to enjoy.

The honeymoon world is extremely accepting of gay couples. Same-sex couples can honeymoon at many destinations like Disney (Disney will even provide a honeymoon package for same-sex couples), Las Vegas, and even Niagara Falls.

While planning your honeymoon, it is important to consider the various aspects that can make or break your honeymoon. Be sure to not hide your sexuality; if you decide on a place, call them and let them know you are gay or lesbian and on your honeymoon. If there is any sense of concern, then that destination may not be what you are looking for. Once at the destination, expect the best; any good honeymoon destination will provide amenities like champagne, chocolates, and flowers to newlyweds.

The most well-known couple’s only resort, Sandals, opened up their resorts to same-sex couples in 2004.  However, we recommend a non-Jamaican Sandals resort in order to avoid discrimination from the strict anti-gay laws in Jamaica. Always be cautious of where you decide to honeymoon.

Disney has always shown a commitment to be inclusive of guests of all lifestyles and in 2007, Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California began allowing same-sex couples to marry through their Fairy Tale Wedding program. Regardless of whether or not the ceremony is legal in your home area, Disney will allow you to utilize their packages.
