Southwest Airlines

Carry-On Allowance: 1 Bag + 1 Personal Item

Each passenger is allowed to carry on one bag and one personal item such as a purse or briefcase. Assistive devices and outer garments do not count as personal items. All carry-on luggage must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you and adhere to the following requirements:

  • Maximum Dimensions of Carry-on Luggage: 10in x 16in x 24in (length x width x height)

Checked Baggage Allowance: 2 Piece

  • Maximum Dimensions: 62 linear inches/157 cm (length + width + height)
  • Maximum Weight: 50 lb/23 kg

Excess, Overweight, Oversize Baggage Fees

Fee for 3rd bag: $25
Fee for 4th - 9th bag: $50 each
Fee for bags 10+: $110 each

Excess bags are only permitted if space is available. Contact Southwest for more information if you are traveling internationally.

Fee for any bag weighing 51-70 lb: $25
Fee for any bag weighing 71-100 lb: $50

Bags weighing more than 100 lb will not be accepted. If a bag is both oversize and overweight, passengers will be charged both fees.

Fee for any bag between 63-80 inches: $50

Bags exceeding 80 inches will not be accepted. If a bag is both oversize and overweight, passengers will be charged both fees.

Sports Equipment

Some checked items, such as surfboards and bicycles will be charged a fixed handling fee of $50 because of size, fragility, or other handling requirements while others may be checked in lieu of one of your checked bags. If you plan to travel with sporting equipment, contact Southwest Airlines directly to confirm packing regulations and fees.
